Festival

Festival of Art and Independent Games LAG is a multiannual and international enterprise that co-organizes: University of Silesia in Katowice, University of Ostrava and University of Ss.Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. The project is a wide-ranging attempt to bring the extremely innovative field of the ‘Designing of games and virtual space’ which is operating as an academic study track since 2012 in Cieszyn at the Faculty of Art. This is certain – games are subject to business, scientific and artistic analysis.

“It’s time to stop thinking about computer games only in the category of popular “shooters’ “.Games, especially independent productions or artistic projects, often touch our emotions and refer to important problems – they are beautiful, wise and important. They allow players to experience art in a new way. Video games are also not new ideas or a revolution in the history of art. They are a consequence of natural development – it’s evolution. Therefore, they draw on culture more than we want to see. Unfortunately, most often we encounter persistent criticism of the medium itself without any reflection on the message. It is true that many games deserve this criticism. Video games go through a road similar to film or photography in the early stages of development, which everyone knows today is an art. Games must win this position and prove their worth “- emphasizes prof. Małgorzata Łuszczak, a prominent creator in the field of graphics and drawing, a valued lecturer and promoter of visual culture.

The ambition of the project organizers is to educate the younger generation, for whom the virtual world is a natural environment. The project assumes the organization of four editions of the LAG Festival. An interesting program of conferences, meetings, workshops and concerts awaiting those interested will take place in Cieszyn as well as at partner universities in Trnava (Slovakia) and Ostrava (Czech Republic).
The “Festival of Art and Independent Games” project organised with support of Crative Europe Programme of the European Union. Partners supporting substantive activities are: City of Cieszyn and Industrial Development Agency.
